THE TERM 'PBOR' HAS BEEN COINED BY GOVERNMENT 'BABUS'
Apropos Kartikeya's article titled 'Post 26/11, Army Jawans
from Maharashtra Doubles' - Page 10, TOI dt 30th Nov,
stating "Defence Forces call personnel below Officer rank as
PBOR". Please permit me to advise that there is NO official
term as 'Personnel Below Officer Rank (PBOR). If any, it is
an unauthorised coinage increasingly being used by 'Babus'
in Government as one more sinister step to degrade & divide
the Armed Forces.
First we have Cl-1 Gazetted Officers. Below them are
Cl-2 Gazetted ' Officers' called 'JCOs' ( Junior Commissioned
Officers ). Then are the "Officers' who are Non Gezetted called
'Non Commissioned Officers' (NCOs). The last rung is the
'Other Ranks' (ORs)- called differently like Sepoy, Gunner,
Sawar, Grenadier, Sapper, Rifleman etc, depending upon his
Arm/Service/ Regiment . Hence it will be noticed that besides
'ORs' all others in the Defence Services are titled as 'Officers'.
