From: Ravindran Major View Contact
To: prabhjot_singh0@yahoo.com

The info is not available me. Even the court order mentions only that he fought in 3 wars but has omitted the crucial info. Maybe he is not a battle casualty. Anyhow I am forwarding it to those who may be better informed.

Dear Veteran (Major) Ravindran, Regards.
Would you, please, confirm whether Major Dharam Chand was a war casuality or he died in harness. If he was a war casuality, basic pension of Mrs. pushpavanthi should be more than 25,000/- P.M. and not Rs.18000/- P.M.

I have posted the following comments at the ndtv site. it may appear after 'moderation':

The soldiers, including veterans, can trust these people in govt only at their own peril. Moily keeps on harping about reducing court cases by reducing govt litigation and then goes on with appeal after appeal in the case of remuneration of service people including veterans. Even the rank pay due to armed forces officers since 1986 has not been paid till date. These days government has not only become synonymous with corruption but also with treason! It appears that soldiers are sacrificing their lives to sustain thugs, scoundrels and traitors in offices of authority in this country.

The latest on OROP- Hindustan Times News.Veteran Prabhjot Singh Chhtwal PLS. Retd.

Dear Veterans,
Regards, Find below the latest on OROP.(Hindustan Times News)

T he Centre seem to have finally made up its mind on not accepting the ex-servicemen's demand for "one rank, one pension".
In a written reply to a question from Lok Sabha MP Sushma Swaraj, Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju on November 30 said, "A committee was constituted under the chairmanship of the cabinet secretary to look into the issue of "one rank, one pension" and other related matters. After considering all aspects of the issue, the committee did not find it administratively feasible to recommend one rank, one pension, as such."
Reacting to the development, Col Bhag Singh (retd), president of the Indian Ex-servicemen League (Punjab unit) and a Ludhiana resident, said: "If the government cheats us, we will not spare it. We had met the President and Defence Minister, and were assured the demand would be met. We are still hopeful."
Maj S.S. Dhillion (retd), SAS Nagar-based chairman of the Ex-ervicemen Joint Action Front, said, "The lobby of IAS officers is against 'one rank, one pension' for us. But we are still hopeful of a positive development."
Lt Gen Depinder Singh (retd) of Panchkula said, "My immediate reaction is that of distress. The government has gone back on its promise. The bureaucracy is pressurising politicians and they do not understand the difference between the defence forces and sycophants. It is a sad decision."
Said Air Marshal R.S. Bedi (retd) of Chandigarh, " It is bad in principle and not logical.Service conditions in the armed forces cannot be compared to any other force. It will have serious repercussions as the movement has gone too far. Lot of ex-servicemen movements are working together to achieve this aim."

Letter shot by Indian Ex-Services League, Punjab & Chandigarh to Prime Minister of India on 22-08-2009 regarding welfare of Veterans and their Widows.

WOES OF PBORs VETERANS
IESL/13/2009 Dt……22August, 2009.

To

Hon'ble Prime Minister of India ,
Prime Minister's office,
New Delhi – 110 011.

Sub:Woes of PBORs Veterans.

Most Respected Sir,

The PBORs veterans were much elated to find the announcement of improved pension for PBORs in the Union Budget presented by your govt. on 6-7-2009 and then your announcement on 15 August, 2009 but now they feel much depressed since bureaucrats are delaying the process of implementation only to please the Senior Veterans who still matter in bureaucratic set up in your govt. and trying to keep the PBORs frustrated till they succeed in meeting their personal designs to embarrass your govt.

As such, the orders for removing the anomaly in the pay of Maj. Generals (implementing the court decision) and grant of improved pay grade to Lt. Generals, which were announced later (on. 12-7-2009) in Lok Sabha by Defence Minister, A.K. Antony, to calm down the much flared Senior Veterans after the Budgetary announcement for PBORs, have been issued about a fortnight ago but the orders regarding improved pension to PBORs have, so far, not been issued.

Similarly, instruction regarding disbursement of regular pension to Hony. Nab. Sub. have also not been issued by PCDA / CGDA resulting in to much frustration among the PBORs. Orders for grant of pension to PBORs at the rate of 70% of the last pay drawn, which were agreed by the govt. long ago, have also not been issued yet.
Woes of PBORs do not end at this stage. your Govt. has been kind enough to grant additional pension to aged veterans who attain the age of 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100 years. Since the date of birth of most of PBORs Veterans is not mentioned in their PPO's, they are not able to receive this benefit so far, though Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare (pertaining to civilian pensioners) has issued the instructions vide their letter no. 21-5-2009 to consider certain documents, such as Pan Card, Passports, CGHS Card, Matriculation Certificates, Driving License and Election ID Card etc as proof of date of birth to make the payment of additional pension to Civilian Pensioners and advised Ministry of Defence to issue such instructions for veterans also but the concerned ministry i.e. Ministry of Defence has, so far, not taken any step to enable the Veterans to receive the additional pension, perhaps they may be waiting for the permanent departure of old veterans from this world. This is creating a great resentment among the PBORs and bringing a bad name to your govt.

We, therefore, pray thee to take necessary action in this regard and instruct the concerned depts. to do the needful at the earliest to relieve the PBORs of their agony.

We shall be much obliged..

Yours Sincerely.

Veteran Prabhjot Singh Chhatwal PLS (Retd)
